Groundwater Detection Practical Equips KEWI Students with Industry-Ready Skills
Students pursuing Diploma in Water Resources Management at the Kenya Water Institute (KEWI) recently participated in a practical groundwater detection session at the Institute's Main Campus Practical Grounds, strengthening their field skills and reinforcing KEWI's commitment to competency-based training.
The practical session focused on the use of PWQT (Portable Water Quality Testing) equipment, exposing students to modern techniques used in groundwater investigations and assessment. Through the exercise, learners gained hands-on experience in identifying potential groundwater sources, collecting field data, and interpreting results—skills that are essential for professionals working in the water sector.
Facilitated by Mr. Momanyi, the session enabled students to translate classroom concepts into practical applications while familiarizing themselves with industry-standard equipment. The exercise also emphasized the importance of precision, teamwork, and adherence to professional field procedures during groundwater investigations.
Speaking during practical practice, Mr. Momanyi emphasized the value of practical learning in preparing students for the dynamic demands of the water industry. Mr. Momanyi further observed that KEWI graduates continue to distinguish themselves across the water sector because of the practical skills and exposure they receive during their training.
"Our students are increasingly taking up opportunities in the water industry because they graduate with hands-on skills and practical experience using modern equipment. Employers are looking for professionals who can contribute from their first day at work, and this is what KEWI continues to provide through its practical training programmes," he said.
He encouraged students to maximize every practical learning opportunity, noting that proficiency in modern field equipment gives them a competitive advantage and prepares them to address real-world water resource challenges.
