KEWI Launches 2026–2027 Short Courses Calendar to Strengthen Water Sector Skills

The Kenya Water Institute (KEWI) has officially launched its 2026–2027 Short Courses Calendar, providing water sector professionals with a comprehensive schedule of industry-focused training programmes designed to enhance technical expertise, strengthen institutional capacity, and support sustainable water resources management.

The calendar was unveiled by the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation, Eng. Eric Murithi Mugaa, alongside KEWI Director/Chief Executive Officer Dr. Leiro Letangule, EBS, during the ongoing Non-Revenue Water (NRW) Management Conference in Naivasha.

The newly launched calendar outlines critical training dates for a wide range of carefully curated programmes to be offered across KEWI campuses. The courses are tailored to respond to emerging challenges in the water and sanitation sector while equipping professionals with practical skills required to improve service delivery and operational efficiency.

The Institute's short courses are designed to equip water sector personnel with the latest knowledge and technical competencies, address specific organizational skills gaps, expose participants to new technologies and innovative approaches, and empower professionals to make informed decisions on water management practices.

The programmes target managers, supervisors, technical officers and other professionals working across the water and wastewater sector. They also cater for personnel from the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation and other related ministries, Water Service Providers, Water Works Development Agencies, the Water Services Regulatory Board, Water Resources Users Associations, Basin Water Resources Committees, county government water departments, and other institutions established under the Water Act, 2016. Participants from the private sector, non-governmental organizations and international institutions are also encouraged to enrol.

KEWI attributes the quality of its training to its experienced faculty, comprising distinguished professionals with extensive academic qualifications and practical experience in the water sector. To ensure continued relevance, the Institute has reviewed several existing courses and introduced new syllabi that address current and emerging sector needs. In addition, customized training programmes can be developed upon request to meet the specialized requirements of individual public and private institutions, with training schedules arranged at the convenience of clients.

Enrolment for all short courses is now open. Prospective participants can access the full training calendar through the KEWI website at www.kewi.go.ke, where they can identify suitable programmes based on the target group and entry requirements. Applications are processed online through the KEWI eCitizen portal (kewi.ecitizen.go.ke), where successful applicants automatically receive a letter of offer and invoice.

The Institute also offers accommodation for trainees attending courses at its Nairobi Campus upon request, while flexible pricing packages are available for customized training and consultancy services conducted either at KEWI or client premises.

Through the 2026–2027 Short Courses Calendar, KEWI continues to reaffirm its commitment to developing a highly skilled workforce capable of driving innovation, improving service delivery, and supporting Kenya's long-term water security and sustainable development goals.
